  1. THE DESIGN. . .

The design of this community hub started with a square. A square expressing space in four different areas around the central main structure; enclosed, semi-enclosed; semi-open and open. The circulation flows from one other in this specific order around the center point.

The whole structure is built from gum poles, molted into custom made concrete footings (to engineers specifications), and marine ply fixed onto the gum pole structure. All the gum poles and marine ply used in this structure is according manufacture sizes. The few elements that had to be cut to custom sizes are done on the most economical ways possible to ensure minimal waste.

The marine ply is also fixed onto horizontal gum poles, serving as a roof over the enclosed and semi-enclosed areas. The gaps between the marine ply in the roof structure, not only compliment the square structure even more, but also prevent rotting between the marine ply.

The gum poles gives the effect of not a solid square, but a more framed square getting more and more exposed to the open areas.
There is a variation in the floor levels, with the enclosed area to have the highest and stepping down from there.

This community hub will serve as ‘n place for citizens to relax, socialize and even work. The wireless internet and mobile phone chargers with be available and free of charge at the main core.

This structure is easy to be assembled and is suitable for any preferred, flat site. If site slopes, the variation of the floor levels can be adjusted.
